past perfect

Past perfect or pluperfect, same name for same past tense, the equivalent of the French plus-que-parfait.

  • 1/ We went to the cinema after we --- (eat) at the restaurant.

  • 2/ Belinda --- (finish) her cleaning when her mother came back.

  • 3/ Bob arrived too late: the gate --- (close).

  • 4/ --- (already/Kevin/arrive) when you opened the door?

  • 5/ They --- (drink) very little when they finally left.

  • 6/ They --- (not see) each other for ages when they eventually met last Saturday.

  • 7/ Beth --- (read) the book before she watched the film.

  • 8/ Liam was stunned when he realized he --- (win) the lottery!

  • 9/ I --- (not drive) very far when the car broke down.

  • 10/ I --- (forget) my pen and I had to borrow one.
